Chia-Yuan Chen is a Professor in the Department of Power Mechanical Engineering at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), Taiwan, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC, 2022). He earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in 2012. His interdisciplinary research centers on AI-integrated micro/nanorobotics, smart lab-on-a-chip systems, hemodynamics, flow visualization, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and microfabrication for advanced bio-diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

Alongside his academic appointments, Prof. Chen served as the Director of the Science and Technology Division at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Los Angeles, where he led initiatives to strengthen scientific and technological collaboration between Taiwan and the United States. Previously, from 2017 to 2020, he was the Associate Vice President for International Affairs and Director of the International Relations Division at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), where he facilitated key strategic agreements with partner universities across Europe, North America, and Asia.

An active leader in the scientific community, Prof. Chen has authored over 70 peer-reviewed papers in leading microfluidics and biomedical journals—with several selected as journal covers, Editor’s Picks, or Annual Outstanding Papers. He is the recipient of the prestigious 2018 Ta-You Wu Memorial Award from Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST)—the nation’s highest honor for outstanding young scholars—among numerous other research recognitions.

Prof. Chen served on the Technical Program Committee and as a Session Chair for IEEE MEMS 2018 and reviews for more than 30 SCI journals. He has edited books for AIP Publishing and served as a Guest/Topic Editor for major scientific journals. Internationally, he has contributed as an expert proposal reviewer for the Dutch Research Council (NWO, 2023) and the National Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS) in Belgium (2022–2025).
