INTRODUCTION

The Department of Power Mechanical Engineering (PME) of National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) was founded in 1972 with both undergraduate and master programs. In 1973, we started a research and development project on electrical vehicles; this earns the department its high reputation as well as sets up the landmark for Taiwan government supported academic research.

The Ph.D. program was then established in 1981. Having received the excellent training on theoretical analysis and experimental practice in both mechanical and electrical engineering, our students have been performing outstandingly in their proficiency areas. According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject in 2017, NTHU is ranked about #38 in the world in the subject of Mechanical Engineering.
